Cheap or Free Cell Phone Apps to Help You Manage and Save Your Money Instead of It Managing You

Did you know apps could be used for more than Angry Birds or Words with Friends? Below are some cheap or free apps which can help you gain control over your finances.

  1. Mint.com--I personally love mint.com. It allows you to monitor your bank accounts, loans, and credit cards, so you can stay with your budget. It sends me regular emails to let me know when I am close to exceeding my Starbucks budget for the month, reminders that bills are due, and helpful money saving hints like I am paying more than the average person for auto insurance. Best of all it is free.
  2. Pageonce--I do not use this one, but it is similar to Mint.com. It does have additional features like allowing you to track your cellphone minutes and get flight information. It is supposed to add a new feature soon allowing you to pay bills from the app. The basic version is free.
  3. GasBubby--With today's gasoline prices continuing to climb, this free app helps you look for the cheapest gas in your community.
  4. ShopSavvy--Have you ever seen something in the store and wanted to know if you are getting a good deal on it? Then this free app is for you. Just scan the barcode of the item and ShopSavvy will let you know who has the best deal in town from vendors on the internet to local stores in your community. You can also set a price alert for a particular item and ShopSavvy will let you know when the item is within you price range.
  5. Key Ring rewards cards--This app allows you to take a picture of your store loyalty reward card so you do not need to carry all of those cards around. When you are ready to check out, you go to the app and allow the cashier to scan the card from your phone. I don't use this one because I have never felt a need for it. I am one of those annoying people who holds up the line by having the cashier look up my information if it is a store I don't frequently go to. However, it is free.
  6. Loan Shark--So many people fall to account for interest rates when purchasing items. This free app allows you to quickly and easily figure out the true costs of a loan.
  7. ReceiptLoader--This app is great for self-employed individuals. It allows you to keep track of your business receipts for tax time. However, it does require a monthly plan that starts at $7.00 a month. For the $7.00 a month, you can keep up with up to 30 receipts a month. It you need more, you will have to pay more.
